[P-23RA3]

At the beginning of his reign, Ramses II tried to end the Hittite control of Syria. About 1285 BC. he fought against the Hettites at Kadesh and achieved a great victory. Some battles from history have determined who was the most powerful empire in the world. The Battle of Kadesh was one of them.

This was the first battle of those real military tactics that are known. But about 1269 BC. Ramses had a treaty with the Hittite king who divided Syria between them.

This papyrus painting shows a scene of this battle with the seated Ramses II in his chariot ready for the attack, with his bow and arrow. You also see the horse with multiple legs, as a sign for his quick and powerful attack.
